Homemade Honey Cherry Syrup – Naturally Sweetened with Real Cherries
August 12, 2026
Bright, refreshing, and incredibly simple, this Homemade Honey Limeade is made with fresh lime juice and Browning’s Honey instead of granulated sugar.
The honey softens the sharp tartness of fresh limes while adding a subtle depth of flavor you don’t get from ordinary simple syrup. Serve it over ice for an easy summer drink, add sparkling water for some fizz, or use it as the base for our Honey Cherry Limeade.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: About 8
Yield: Approximately 2 quarts
Course: Drinks
Difficulty: Easy
Recommended Honey: Browning’s Clover Honey
This recipe has just three basic ingredients: fresh lime juice, Browning’s Honey, and water.
It’s tart, refreshing, easy to batch, and contains no granulated sugar. Making a honey syrup first also helps the honey blend evenly into the cold limeade instead of settling at the bottom.
Use fresh lime juice. Since lime is the star of this recipe, freshly squeezed juice makes a noticeable difference.
Don’t use boiling water. The water only needs to be warm enough to easily dissolve the honey.
Taste your limes. Their acidity can vary. Think of the ¾ cup honey as your starting point and adjust the final pitcher to taste.
Make it ahead. Limeade tastes even better after it has chilled and the flavors have had time to come together.
Roll your limes first. Firmly roll whole limes against the counter with your palm before cutting them to help release more juice.
Sparkling Honey Limeade
Replace 2–3 cups of the cold water with chilled sparkling water. Add it immediately before serving to preserve the bubbles.

Strawberry Honey Limeade
Muddle fresh strawberries in the bottom of the glass before adding the limeade.
Mint Honey Limeade
Add several fresh mint leaves to the pitcher and allow them to infuse while the limeade chills.
Extra-Tart Limeade
Increase the fresh lime juice to 1¼ cups.
Store Honey Limeade covered in the refrigerator and enjoy within 3–4 days. Stir before serving.
If you’re making the sparkling version, add the sparkling water to individual glasses rather than the entire pitcher if you expect to have leftovers.
Honey doesn’t just replace the granulated sugar—it adds another layer of flavor. Its gentle floral sweetness balances the acidity of fresh lime beautifully, creating a limeade that’s refreshing without tasting one-dimensionally sweet.
And because honey is naturally sweeter than table sugar, you can often use less of it to achieve the sweetness you’re looking for.
