Backpacks are packed, pencils are sharpened, alarm clocks are ringing a little earlier, and families everywhere are settling back into the school-year routine.
Back-to-school season can be exciting—but it can also be hectic.
Between getting everyone out the door in the morning, packing lunches, after-school activities, sports practices, homework and figuring out what in the world to make for dinner, good nutrition can sometimes become an afterthought.
That’s where one of our favorite pantry staples comes in.
At Browning’s Honey, we obviously love honey because it tastes delicious. But honey is also incredibly versatile and easy to incorporate into breakfasts, lunches, snacks and meals.
If you’re looking for simple ways to get back to school with honey, there are plenty of delicious options that don’t require much extra time or effort.
So as your family heads back to school, here are some simple ways to make honey part of the routine.
We’ve all heard that breakfast is important, but school mornings aren’t exactly known for being leisurely.
Sometimes you’re lucky if everyone has matching shoes.
Instead of relying on heavily processed grab-and-go breakfasts, honey makes it easy to add sweetness to simple foods your family already enjoys.
Try a drizzle of Browning’s Clover Honey over:
Pairing carbohydrates with foods containing protein, healthy fats and fiber can make breakfast more substantial and satisfying.

One of our favorite healthy honey snacks is incredibly simple: Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, granola and a drizzle of Browning’s Honey.
Breakfast doesn’t have to be complicated to be delicious.
Honey is still a form of added sugar, so moderation matters. But one advantage of honey in the kitchen is its big flavor—you often don’t need much to add sweetness to a recipe.
Instead of automatically reaching for white or brown sugar, experiment with honey in homemade foods such as oatmeal, muffins, granola, dressings and sauces.
We’ve been cooking and baking with honey for generations, and one of the things we love most about it is how versatile it is.
Honey isn’t just for toast.
It can sweeten, glaze, balance acidity, add moisture to baked goods and bring flavor to savory dishes.
It can provide you with nutrients to help your brain and body perform well at school and work.
It can be used to make a variety of healthy honey snacks.
That’s a pretty hardworking ingredient to keep in the pantry.
You know the moment.
The kids walk through the door after school and suddenly they’re starving.
Having a few easy and healthy honey snacks ready can make the afternoon much easier.
Try:
Apple slices + peanut butter + honey
Spread peanut butter over apple slices and finish with a tiny drizzle of honey.
Honey yogurt parfait
Layer Greek yogurt, berries, granola and honey.
Banana honey toast
Top whole-grain toast with peanut butter, banana slices and a drizzle of honey.
Homemade trail mix
Combine nuts, seeds, whole-grain cereal and dried fruit. Pair it with a piece of fresh fruit or yogurt sweetened with a little honey.
Combine oats, peanut butter, honey and your favorite additions for an easy make-ahead snack.

These aren’t just for kids, either.
Keep a few in the refrigerator for the adults who hit that 3 p.m. slump, too.
Back to school often means back to sports.
Football, volleyball, soccer, cross-country, dance and other activities can turn an ordinary school day into a very long one.
Carbohydrates are an important fuel source during exercise, and honey is primarily made up of the carbohydrates glucose and fructose.
That makes honey an easy ingredient to incorporate into pre- or post-activity foods.
A banana with peanut butter and honey, yogurt with fruit and honey, a smoothie, or homemade honey energy bites can all be convenient options around a busy practice schedule.
And don’t forget the basics: young athletes still need balanced meals, adequate protein and plenty of fluids.
Honey isn’t magic sports fuel, and honey for athletes doesn’t replace balanced meals, adequate protein or plenty of fluids.
It’s simply one useful—and delicious—piece of the puzzle.
There are also some great lunchbox ideas with honey to help break up the repetitiveness of everyday meals.

Use honey to make a homemade vinaigrette or dipping sauce, add a little to peanut butter sandwiches, mix it into yogurt or use it in homemade baked goods.
You can also make a simple honey mustard by combining honey and mustard for a sweet-and-tangy dip for chicken, vegetables or pretzels.
Honey sticks are another easy lunchbox option—no spoon, container or mess required. They’re a simple little treat kids can tuck into a lunchbox or grab for an after-school snack.
And here’s a Browning’s Honey trick:
Different varieties of honey can completely change the flavor.
A mild clover honey works beautifully when you want sweetness without overpowering the other ingredients, while one of our Flavored Creamed Honeys can turn an ordinary piece of toast or sandwich into something special.
One of the easiest ways to make weekday eating easier is to prepare a few healthy honey snacks before Monday morning arrives.
You don’t need an elaborate meal-prep system.
Pick two or three things.
Bake a batch of honey muffins.
Make homemade granola.
Mix up a honey-based salad dressing.
Prepare energy bites.
Portion yogurt and fruit.
Make a honey marinade for chicken that can become dinner one night and lunch the next day.
An hour of preparation on the weekend can save a surprising amount of time during the week.
And anything that makes Monday morning easier gets our vote.
Back-to-school season isn’t only an adjustment for kids.
Parents, teachers, school staff, coaches and everyone else suddenly have schedules changing, too.
Keep some of those easy foods for yourself.
Add honey to oatmeal before work. Stir a little into your coffee or tea. Pack yogurt and granola for an afternoon snack. Make an extra batch of energy bites or keep a few healthy honey snacks on hand for yourself.
Or just hide a jar of your favorite Browning’s creamed honey in your desk.
We won’t tell anyone.
At Browning’s Honey, we’ve been producing, harvesting and packaging honey since 1921.
For five generations, we’ve watched honey go from our bees, to our honey house, to jars—and eventually onto kitchen tables all over the country.
And while a lot has changed since our family started keeping bees more than 100 years ago, one thing hasn’t:
Sometimes the simplest foods are still the best.
As your family heads into another busy school year, don’t worry about making every breakfast Pinterest-perfect or every lunchbox worthy of a photograph.
Keep it simple.
Choose foods your family enjoys. Include protein, fruits, vegetables and whole grains when you can. Keep everyone hydrated. And when life needs a little sweetness?
Reach for the honey.
Whether you’re looking for easy school-day breakfasts, healthy honey snacks, or new lunchbox ideas with honey, adding honey to things can be a simple way to add flavor to foods your family already enjoys.
Here’s to full backpacks, full bellies, new adventures and a great school year.
